Samantha Sperry’s Family Seeks Closure A Year After Her Disappearance

GRAVES CO. SHERIFF'S OFFICE, CROPPED

Following the appointment of an interim sheriff in Graves County, the stepfather of a Murray woman who went missing in the county last March said he’s hoping for resolution to the investigation.

Anthony Victor Artis is planning acandlelight vigil on March 27 for Samantha Sperry. She was reported missing on March 29 and her case drew national attention on NBC’s ‘Dateline.’ The Graves County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating, but Artis said former sheriff Dewayne Redmon “dropped the ball.”

“Nothing was really being done,” Artis said. “Her case file wasn’t really being put together until after he got in trouble for what he was indicted for.”

Redmon was indicted on drug possession charges in August and re-elected in November. He died last month. Retired McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden was appointed as interim sheriff. Artis said he hopes Hayden can bring some closure to the case.

“Either find the remains of my daughter so we can put her to rest or shoot for a conviction,” Artis said.

The vigil for Sperry will take place on State Route 131 at an auction barn in Kaler. She was last allegedly seen walking on that highway on March 27. The vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sperry is 5’6” with blonde hair and hazel eyes. She would be 26 this year.
