Tax Increase Passes Paducah School Board

  Paducah Independent Schools Board voted last night approving a tax referendum to fund state mandated pay increases for teachers.

  A man with a duffel bag and a syringe sticking out of his arm led McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies into the Ohio River Wednesday.

The U.S. 60 Cumberland River Bridge at Smithland in Livingston County will be restricted to one lane today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restriction is due to an annual inspection of the structure. All Kentucky bridges get a detailed inspection biannually.

A recently-graduated Kentucky state trooper was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle wreck near Grand Rivers.  23-year-old Trooper Eric Chrisman of Lawrenceburg was responding to a reckless driving complaint on US 62 approximately two miles west of Grand Rivers when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed into the other lane, and hit a tractor-trailer truck.  Chrisman was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other driver was treated at Marshall County Hospital and released.

  McCracken County School officials are exploring a district-wide policy regarding school uniforms.

Jayme Jones, Public Relations Director, said school board members and principals  held a work session on the topic this week. She says the next step will be opening up the discussion to community members. She cites some reasons for the potential change.
