A Murray man facing charges including two counts of murder, animal cruelty, burglary and tampering with evidence will go on trial in Calloway County on Sept. 8, 2020.

Judge Tim Kaltenbach in Calloway County Circuit Court on Monday set the trial date more than a year in advance to allow time for the state forensic laboratory to analyze potential evidence, such as DNA from blood samples at the crime scene.

51-year-old Shannon Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges in February. Scott is accused of murdering two women in Murray and allegedly hid and killed a dog. Commonwealth Attorney Dennis Foust said how the state will prosecute the case will largely depend on the results from forensic laboratory.
