The American Legion announced the coronavirus pandemic is what led to cancellation of the group’s annual national convention this summer.

The veterans' organizations says the convention, which was scheduled in Louisville Aug. 28-Sept. 3, was moved to Phoenix in August 2021.

Officials say the decision was necessary to protect the safety of the group’s members.

This is the first time the organization’s national convention has been canceled.
