[Audio] Sara Watkins on Tonight's Paducah Performance, Chris Thile & New Album

Patty Griffin, Facebook

Three singer-songwriters share the stage tonight (Friday, February 19) at the WKCTC Clemens Fine Arts Center. Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins and Anais Mitchell accompany each other in a "singers in the round" style concert. On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross speaks with Sara Watkins about how this concert came together, her new solo album and thoughts on Chris Thile hosting A Prairie Home Companion.

Watkins says Patty Griffin wanted to do a package with the three musicians, making it about something other than just getting together. The concert is in partnership with The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan advocacy organization aimed at developing voting awareness. Watkins says they'll be playing on each others' songs and may have an occasional solo. Each night has been different, she says.

On her former band mate Chris Thile (Nickel Creek) hosting A Prairie Home Companion, Watkins says she knows he'll do a great job as host and says nobody else could do it better. She looks forward to the direction he takes the show.

Watkins is coming out with a solo album this summer and says more information will be revealed in March. The songs are mixed and mastered and now they're finishing up the artwork. It's the first album she's written all of the material on and she'll be touring this album shortly after its release.

Note: There are only a handful of single tickets still available for tonight's performance.
