Graves County native and award-winning author Bobbie Ann Mason is participating in a free screening this month in Paducah of a film based on one of her novels.

Milner & Orr Funeral Home, McCracken County Public Library and Maiden Alley Cinema are hosting the screening of In Country at the cinema on October 17 at 6 p.m.

The screening follows a library-hosted reading of the novel.

Andrea Orr of Milner & Orr said in a release the event ties-in with the traveling Vietnam Memorial replica “The Wall That Heals” coming to Carson Park on October 25.

In Country is about a Kentucky girl whose father was killed in the Vietnam War and her efforts to learn about him from her uncle suffering from PTSD. Much of the filming took place in west Kentucky.

Mason is also known for her Shiloh and Other Stories and The Girl in the Blue Beret.

She spoke about her work at an event last year at Murray State University.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
