Authorities Release Name of Man Shot to Death by KSP Trooper in Daviess County

PUBLIC DOMAIN, WIKIMEDIA COMMONS

Investigators are releasing the name of the suspect who was shot to death by a Kentucky State Police trooper Monday in Daviess County.

Twenty-four-year-old Reuben Ruffin, Junior, of Frankfort, allegedly pointed a gun at the trooper.

KSP and Daviess County Sheriff's deputies were pursuing a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Lexington.

After crashing the vehicle, Ruffin fled on foot. According to KSP, Ruffin had a pistol in his hand, refused orders to drop the gun, and then pointed the gun at Trooper Blake Owens.

The trooper shot Ruffin twice, killing him. Trooper Owens has been with state police for two-and-a-half years.

He's been placed on administrative leave, which is normal protocol when officers are involved in the use of force.
