Local conservation enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a series of Summer Conservation Workshops this month and next. Sponsored by the Jackson Purchase Foundation in partnership with the City of Murray, Calloway County Conservation District, UK Cooperative Extension and Calloway County Extension, the first-ever workshop series features eco-friendly technologies to improve local and individual conservation efforts. On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross speaks with 319 Watershed Coordinator Jesse York to learn more about what to expect from the workshops.

The first-ever series of Summer Conservation Workshops will kick-start with a Rain Barrel Workshop on June 24 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Central Park in Murray. Attendees will learn what rain barrels are, why they are important to the community, and how they conserve water and cut-down on water bills.

The Backyard Conservation Workshop will be held on July 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at Murray State University's Arboretum. The workshop will feature wildlife and eco-friendly yard care practices such as gardening, composting, recycling, erosion, and storm water management. Guest speakers from local businesses will discuss topics from beekeeping for beginners, solar panels, sustainable building materials and more.

The series will wrap up with a Healthy Soils Workshop on July 31 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Expo Center in Murray. Topics covered will include optimal soil health, eco-friendly fertilization and pollution prevention.

All workshops are free to the public with breakfast and snacks provided. More information and pre-registration can be found at jpf.org.
