Beshear Announces 84 Acute Care Hospitals Will Receive Moderna Vaccine Later This Month

Governor Andy Beshear during Tuesday’s media briefing on the coronavirus announced 84 acute care hospitals will receive the Moderna vaccine the week of Dec. 20 through Dec. 26 following the release of the Pfizer vaccine.

Beshear said officials are working to provide vaccines to other allocated hospitals the week of Dec.27-31.

Beshear reported 3,114 new positive cases Tuesday. That is 1,037 fewer cases than reported last week on Tuesday. Over 3 million COVID-19 tests have been completed in Kentucky since the pandemic began.

Tuesday’s reporting now brings the state total for COVID-19 cases to 205,668. There were also 20 confirmed deaths Tuesday, increasing the total number of deaths to 2,102 deaths in the commonwealth.

Kentucky’s positivity rate is now 9.56%.

There are currently 1,760 Kentuckians in the hospital with COVID-19. Beshear also reported 416 people receiving intensive care treatment and 207 on a ventilator.

Calloway County Health Department reported 19 new cases and two additional deaths related to COVID-19 on Thursday. The total number of confirmed cases ever in Calloway County is now at 1,945. County officials report 1, 716 positive cases have recovered, 187 are isolated at home, 31 are hospitalized, and 26 have died.
