Beshear Calls on Incoming Legislature to Make Drug Epidemic Top Priority

Kentucky’s top law enforcement officer is calling on the new Republican state legislature to fight the emerging threat of synthetic drug abuse instead of rescuing a failing public pension system.

Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear said Tuesday the drug epidemic is the state’s single greatest problem.

Republican Governor Matt Bevin has said the pension system and its more than $30 billion dollar debt is the administration's top priority.

Beshear said while the retirement system must be fixed, a pension "hasn't killed anyone's father or mother."

Beshear and Bevin have had a series of feuds this past year, with Beshear suing Bevin three times.
