Beshear Encourages Kentuckians To Continue Wearing Masks As Virus Cases Increase

Gov. Andy Beshear

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is encouraging Kentuckians to maintain social distancing and continue wearing masks as coronavirus cases increase in the commonwealth.

Beshear said compliance with mandates from the state government and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is critical to safely reopening Kentucky’s economy and continuing to defeat COVID-19.

“If you don’t think we’re reopening fast enough and you’re not wearing a mask, you’re one of the concerns on why we might not be able to stay reopened,” Beshear said.

Beshear announced 120 Kentuckians tested positive for the coronavirus Monday, bringing the statewide total to 12,647. The number of virus tests administered is up to 325,065.

The new cases come from Kentucky counties including Daviess, Marshall, Henderson, Calloway, Logan, McCracken, Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Union.

The commonwealth’s coronavirus death toll passed 500 over the weekend, with five new deaths Monday bringing the total to 505.

Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman announced a bipartisan effort to safely reopen Kentucky’s schools. Coleman also serves as Secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. She said Rep. Tina Bojanowski, Rep. Regina Huff, Sen. Reggie Thomas and Sen. Max Wise will serve as legislative representation on the task force to develop reopening guidance. More information on the “Healthy at School” initiative will follow in the coming weeks.
