Governor Matt Bevin has named Leon Owens to the Murray State University Board of Regents. Owens is an alumnus and the president of Swift and Staley in Paducah.

Owens fills the seat held by Susan Guess. She stepped down after her term expired in June. Staff Regent Phil Schooley said in an email Owens term runs through June 2025.

Murray State President Bob Jackson said in a statement the university is excited to have Owens as the newest board member. He credited Owens success as a businessman, a community and regional leader and supporter of the university. “He will be a great asset to Murray State University as we continue to move forward,” Jackson said.

Owens serves on the Greater Paducah Economic Development board and recently served as chair of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
