Boeing Hopes To Recruit New Workers From Somerset And Elizabethtown

Boeing's Facebook Page

Elizabethtown and Somerset Community Colleges are holding recruiting events Thursday and Friday for Boeing manufacturing positions in Washington state. The company is offering up to $20,000 for relocating.

Boeing is looking for people with skills in electrical technology, engineering and electronics technology and industrial maintenance technology. Butch Tincher is an instructor at Somerset Community College. He said Boeing’s hiring exam mirrors the school’s exit exam.

“Right now our placement rate at Somerset for students that complete the program is considerably over 90 percent,” Tincher said. “The demand is high everywhere for qualified mechatronics technicians at the moment.”

Tincher said the school can’t get their students out the door fast enough to satisfy industry need. He said those interested in Boeing’s recruitment event don’t have to be students or graduates of the Somerset or Elizabethtown Community College program.

“Well, obviously this is a rare opportunity. There’s a lot of schools and there’s a lot of technicians between us and Seattle,” he said. “So the fact that they’re coming here to interview students from this region speaks volumes.”

Tincher said there’s a high demand for workers skilled in “mechatronics”, which combines multiple engineering fields. The recruiting event at Elizabethtown Community College is Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm. Somerset Community College is hosting a Boeing recruitment event Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.
