Calloway County Democratic Party Chair David Ramey plans on running again for the Kentucky 5th District House Seat in 2018.

Ramey told WKMS News on Wednesday he is running in the 2018 election. He said on Facebook he will make a formal announcement Thursday, when he plans on formally filing.

He challenged and lost to incumbent Republican Representative Kenny Imes in 2016. Imes said on Wednesday he is not seeking re-election and will instead run for Calloway County Judge Executive.

Ramey said he is concerned with issues related to education and pension reform.

“We need somebody up in Frankfort who’s going to fight for public education, fight for public employees, fight for Murray State University and is someone who is committed to getting a lot done up in the capitol for this community," Ramey said.

Ramey said he believes the Bevin administration and Republican leadership in Frankfort don’t value state workers and public education. He said he will continue to campaign on issues that he spoke on in his 2016 race.

"We're going to continue to talk about public education, public employees and having a growing economy that will benefit the working class in Kentucky," Ramey said. "That's what I was about last year and what I'm going to be about in 2018."

The 5th District includes Calloway and part of Trigg County. Ramey runs an insurance agency in Murray.
