Calloway County Judge Exec. Considering Run For 5th District House Seat

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Kentucky’s fifth district State Representative and the Calloway County Judge Executive could switch seats in 2018.

Republican Representative Kenny Imes is forgoing a reelection bid next year to instead run for Judge Executive.

Calloway County Judge Executive Larry Elkins said earlier this year he isn’t running for a sixth term. Elkins - a Republican - said he is, however, considering running for Imes’ seat.

“My wife and I have talked about it, there’s a lot of things to consider when you take a big step like that. But I am interested in exploring that opportunity, it fits right in with what I think would be a continuation of my life’s work.”  Elkins said.

Elkins said if he decides to run, he will “Go to Frankfort with the idea of not working for one particular political party, or anybody else’s agenda.”

The fifth district includes Calloway and part of Trigg County.
