Calloway County Library's Sandy Linn on End of Life Caregiving Panel, Book Discussion

Through a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council, the Calloway County Public Library recently held a forum on The Art of Caregiving, with a panel of health experts on how to make end of life decisions for family members. As a follow-up, the library is hosting a book discussion on Will Schwalbe's The End of Your Life Book Club in January. Kate Lochte speaks with the library's Sandy Linn about the event and the grant on Sounds Good.

The recent Art of Caregiving panel was an all access grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. Described as 'not for the faint of heart' this panel tackled questions from the community on how to make end of life decisions for family members from 'mom has dementia and how to I take care of her' to 'dad doesn't want to eat.' The important takeaways, Sandy Linn says, were some general guidance on how to do the right things and that to know you are not alone in making these difficult decisions.

A project that began today, continuing the theme from this grant, is a community discussion read of Will Schwalbe's The End of Your Life Book Club with the library's bookclub. Members of the community are invited to join in the reading and group discussion in January. The book is about Mary Anne Schwalbe and her son spending hours in waiting rooms while she receives treatment for cancer, developing a shared fondness for books and talking about them - finding comfort and bonding at the end of life.
