A Christian County couple faces felony assault charges for the alleged abuse of a young child.

Police said in a release Tuesday evening they received a complaint Sunday night involving a two-month-old child with severe injuries consistent with abuse.

23-year-old Cassandra Hansley of Herndon was charged with first-degree assault. 24-year-old Cody Hansley of Herndon was charged with one count of complicity to assault first degree. Both are lodged in the Christian County Detention Center.

The child was transported by ambulance to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville and later flown to Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital in Nashville due to the severity of injuries. Police say the child is now in stable condition.

Detective Brandon McPherson is continuing the investigation.
