Clarksville & Montgomery County Votes Against City/County Merger

CITY OF CLARKSVILLE FACEBOOK PAGE

The majority of citizens in Clarksville and Montgomery County voted against a city/county government merger in Tuesday’s midterm election.

This is the third time in recent history that a government consolidation proposal has been brought to a vote and failed in Montgomery. Nearly 90% of county residents and 58% of city residents voted against the merger.

Some critics - including Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan- were concerned about tax increases and the merging of the county’s sheriff and city police departments.

McMillan lost her seat as mayor to former state Representative Joe Pitts by a little over 200 votes.
