Congressman Andy Barr's Town Hall Includes Lots of Vocal Attendees

Monday night’s town hall meeting with Sixth District Congressman Andy Barr included a lot of vocal reaction from a packed auditorium. Shouts of discontent came early and lasted throughout much of the hour-and-a-half program at Lafayette High School.

The first very audible reaction from many in the town hall crowd during Barr’s power point erupted when he said the Affordable Care Act is in a death spiral. Jill Shearer believes outright repeal of the ACA won’t work and is convinced republicans need democrats to reach an ultimate solution.

“What is the fervor instead of, like the woman earlier said, focus on the people, not on the parties," Shearer said.

Barr said it’s important to move away from government controlled health care. Afterward, the Lexington congressman said the outcry of some attendees was anticipated.

“You know, look, Lexington has a lot of progressives here and so, it wasn’t a surprise," he said. "We want to do this. We think it’s very important, even when there’s disagreement.”

In addition to the ACA, other participant comments focused on issues like reducing the national debt, Medicare, and climate change.
