CPE Approves New Murray State Tuition Model

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

The Council on Postsecondary Education has approved Murray State University's proposed tuition fees for the next academic year.

The new model for the 2016-17 academic year applies to incoming freshmen, transfer students and new non-degree seeking students. Undergraduate students will pay $4,200 per semester for 12-15 credit hours. An hourly rate will be applied to credit hours over 15.

Returning full-time undergraduate residents will pay an additional $168 per semester. Non-resident undergraduates will pay $468 more per semester.

President Bob Davies said in a press release “Our new scholarship model is aggressive – and progressive – providing students a percentage of their total tuition, instead of a flat rate.”

The new model was developed after two years of research and on the heels of state budget cuts to higher education appropriation.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
