The McCracken County Sheriff's Department has filed criminal charges against county high school teacher Daniel Edwards.
Sheriff Matt Carter said in a press release today detectives charged Edwards with one count of harassing behavior, a class B misdemeanor.
Edwards had been previously unnamed in an open investigation that started on February 6 into alleged inappropriate communications with minor students.
During this investigation, the Sheriff's Department spoke with a former student who told detectives Edwards requested nude photographs from them during the summer of 2018. The Sheriff's Department said this student wanted law enforcement to pursue charges on their behalf.
McCracken County Detectives seized property from Edwards around noon Friday, in accordance with a search warrant, that is expected to further the investigation.
This is one of several investigations into alleged inappropriate contact with minor students made by McCracken County School District staff and a volunteer coach. The high school principal, Michael Ceglinski, and the school district director of pupil personnel, Brian Bowland, are also under investigation and charged for failing to report these alleged incidents to law enforcement.
Sheriff Carter said in a press conference on Wednesday that Edwards, then unnamed, has not been in a position to be in contact with any students.
Edwards remained unnamed until this time because there were no formal charges until Friday. Sheriff Carter said the investigation is still ongoing.
