At DNC, Grimes To Give Personal Endorsement Of Clinton

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will address the Democratic National Convention Tuesday night and provide a personal endorsement for Hillary Clinton.

Grimes, whose family has close ties to the Clintons, said she would talk less about the presumptive nominee’s policies and “more about the soul of the person that I have known for the better part of my life for over 20 years.”

Clinton stumped for Grimes’ during the 2014 Senate race that was ultimately won by Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Grimes has spoken at several Clinton events in Kentucky this year. Grimes is the daughter of Jerry Lundergan, a former state representative, two-time Kentucky Democratic Party chair and friend of Bill Clinton.

Hillary Clinton narrowly won the Kentucky Democratic Caucus on May 18, earning 28 delegates from the state.

Grimes said her speech will hone in on Democrats’ “stronger together” theme as party leaders are still trying to mollify Bernie Sanders supporters who are reluctant to support Clinton.

“There has been a respectful civil discourse here, everybody might kind of have different ideas and obviously coming together and supporting different candidates,” Grimes said. “But when we leave here everybody will be united in the effort to defeat Donald Trump on November 8th.”

Sanders supporters attempted to shout down Monday night’s speeches by First Lady Michelle Obama, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sanders, despite calls for unity.

Grimes is scheduled to speak at the DNC sometime between 4 – 5 p.m. CST.
