EKU Graduation ‘High Mark’ Recorded at Richmond School

Eastern Kentucky University officials are seeing improving graduation rates at the Richmond school.

Eastern’s four year graduation rate has almost doubled in the past seven years.  Of freshmen who entered EKU in the fall of 2012, 29.5 percent graduated this year.  Associate Vice President for Student Success Gene Palka says part of the gain can be attributed to additional financial resources.  Still, household income limitations can be significant in Kentucky.

“When I look at why students don’t graduate, most of the time, financial resources play a big factor,” Palka said.

EKU’s five and six year graduation rates both hover around 45 percent.  Palka believes reaching the 50 percent five and six year graduation mark in the relatively short term is attainable.
