EKU Investigating Graffiti Threat, Reward Offered

EKU Police Department, via WEKU

The Eastern Kentucky University Police Department is investigating a report of graffiti with threatening language found in a campus building on Sunday and reported early Monday morning. The message states "KILL ALL BY 10/8/15 THIS BU OOP."

In a statement on Monday, EKU officials say campus police are increasing patrols throughout university grounds. School administration and law enforcement are gathering information and will continue to provide updates to the campus community.

The University is offering a $10,000.00 reward for the identification, arrest and conviction of the responsible person or persons. Anyone who may have information regarding this case is asked to call EKU Police at (859) 622-1111.

An online tip form is available to notify the Police of information that can be used to identify the responsible individual.  This online form can be found at http://www.police.eku.edu/eku-tip-reporting.

This is the second time this calendar year that a graffiti threat has been found on university property. In February, a student found a graffiti message in a bathroom that threatened gun violence to students.

Public Safety Update for the Afternoon of October 5, 2015

Eastern Kentucky University is committed to ensuring the safety of our students, faculty and staff.  To that end, the EKU Police Chief contacted the Joint Terrorism Task Force (FBI), Kentucky State Police, Richmond Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Office, and Berea Police Department, to inform them of the threat and ask for their assistance by increasing patrols through campus and having a presence on campus through Thursday, Oct 8.

In a campus wide email on Monday, President Michael Benson said students, faculty and staff will not be penalized should they decide not to come to campus this week. EKU students will have to make up any missed work.

The Model Laboratory School will be closed for the remainder of the week.
