Former journalist and founding host of KET's 'Kentucky Tonight' Bill Goodman will emcee the political speaking at this year's Fancy Farm Picnic in west Kentucky.
The picnic is on August 3 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in rural Graves County. The annual church fundraiser is a longtime tradition in its 139th year. It draws thousands of visitors and serves up barbecue, bingo and old fashioned political stumping.
Event chair Mark Wilson said in a release on Friday that Goodman's "keen interest and experience covering Kentucky politics" seems fitting for an election year of candidates seeking Kentucky's constitutional offices. Candidates for governor, attorney general, secretary of state and other statewide offices will be invited to speak.
Goodman says Fancy Farm is the single most important political event in Kentucky and says he's "deeply flattered" to be invited to host.
Goodman worked at KET for more than 20 years. He hosted 'Kentucky Tonight' and 'One to One With Bill Goodman.' He's covered election nights, the legislature, candidate forums and previous Fancy Farm picnics. He is currently the executive director of the Kentucky Humanities Council.
