A former Livingston County Circuit Court Clerk has been sentenced to five years probation for abuse of public trust.

Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear said on Tuesday that Michelle Barnes was sentenced last week for stealing $20,000 dollars of public funds.

She admitted to stealing from judicial funds for court costs and violation fines that are paid to a clerk’s office by taxpayers.

Prosecutors say Barnes illegally took the funds while acting in her official capacity as deputy clerk over the course of three years between Jan. 1, 2013 and March 31, 2016.

She is under court monitoring and is required to pay back the money she stole as a part of her sentence.
