Graves County Sheriff Warns of Area Phone Scam

Graves County’s Sheriff’s Office is urging people not to fall for a phone scam in which a caller impersonating law enforcement is coercing people into sending him money.

Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says a male caller is telling people they have missed federal jury duty and that there is a warrant for their arrest. He then says by sending him five-hundred dollars the warrant will be withdrawn. Instructing victims to obtain a money card, he then asks them read the numbers off the card.

The caller identifies himself as a deputy with the county sheriff’s office and the callers voicemail states the same thing, however does not specify which county.

Redmon says a law enforcement agency would never call someone telling them to send money to have a warrant or summons withdrawn. He says if you get a call like this to hang up and to not call them back.
