Hopkins County held a ribbon cutting September 24th to celebrate the completion of a new Outdoor Archery Pavilion.

Hopkins County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield said this is currently the only venue to host an outdoor archery tournament in west Kentucky.

Whitfield believes being the first in the region to expand their archery complex to an outdoor pavilion puts Hopkins County “ahead of the curve.”

He says he also believes recreational archery is a growing sport. “Archery seems to be continuing to grow in the region. Adding the outdoor pavilion, I think does keep us ahead of the curve there. So, we will continue to be a premier location for tournaments, because, we think this is a great place to be.” said Whitfield.

He believes the main economic boost from the expansion will come from archery tournament bringing in tourism.

The pavilion was funded by the West Kentucky Archery Association, the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission, the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, and a Land and Water Conservation grant.

It’s located at 3100 Grapevine Road in Madisonville and is adjacent to the Indoor Archery Range.
