Hopkinsville City Councilman Says Miscommunication Caused His Arrest Last Week

Hopkinsville City Council

A Hopkinsville city councilman who was arrested last week said the arrest stemmed from a miscommunication in scheduling a court date to face a child support charge.

WHOP News reports Kentucky State Police arrested 43-year-old councilman Darvin Adams Wednesday night. Adams was released on a $1000 bond. Adams allegedly failed to show up to a Jefferson County court in 2016 to face a charge of continued failure to provide child support.

Adams said in a statement released Sunday the arrest was the result of a miscommunication in planning a court date. He claims to have paid child support since 1996. Adams said he doesn’t want this arrest to distract the community and plans to continue his work as a council member.

Adams won his city council seat by beating an incumbent city councilman, Thomas Grant, in the spring 2018 Democratic primary elections by 51 votes and then running opposed last fall in the general election.
