The race to become Hopkinsville's next mayor is generating quite a bit of fundraising – easily outpacing other local mayoral races.
According to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance, former Christian County Chamber of Commerce CEO Carter Hendricks has raised more than $37,000 in his bid to become the next mayor, but spent most of that in his Republican primary.
Hendricks has already outspent retiring Mayor Dan Kemp’s entire 2010 campaign and had just under $5,000 on hand according to the most recent statement filed with the registry. That’s much less than Democratic primary victor Joey Pendleton, who had more than $12,000 on hand as of the June 19 deadline.
By contrast, the Murray mayoral race has generated only a total of $1,350, all for challenger Jack Rose. Incumbent Mayor Bill Wells has yet to report any fundraising.
In comparison with a city closer to Hopkinsville's population, Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler spent $39,000 in her winning 2012 campaign.
The next candidate report is due July 19.
