J.D. Wilkes Presents an Old Fashioned Square Dance on Saturday

J.D. Wilkes, Facebook

Colonel J.D. Wilkes, author, artist, film-maker, rocker, and harmonica-wizard, is presenting an Old Fashioned Square Dance with caller Ray Wyatt and music by the Lakeland Jamboree this Saturday night at the Jamboree's headquarters on 61 Jefferson in Cadiz. "You don't have to know how to dance to have a blast," he says, speaking with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good. Doors open at 7, lessons at 7:30, dancing at 8.

J.D. Wilkes has been interested in square dancing that carries on the old barn dance tradition, especially ones that continue in this technological age. "It's sort of the antidote to the 'cyber-Facebook' culture that we have now," he says, where people get together to dance, listen to music, play cards and just visit. At the square dance, move to old-time fiddle tunes with an appearance by Charlie Stamper, brother of fiddler Art Stamper, who Wilkes says was one of the architects of bluegrass music.
