Judge Denies Bevin's Request to Reverse UofL Ruling

WKMS

A Kentucky judge will not reverse his ruling declaring Republican Gov. Matt Bevin was wrong to abolish and replace the board of trustees at the University of Louisville. Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd ruled last month Bevin's order abolishing the board was illegal.

Bevin's attorneys asked him to reconsider, arguing Shepherd misinterpreted some facts and legal precedents in forming the opinion. Friday, Shepherd denied Bevin's motion, saying none of Bevin's arguments are enough to reverse his order. The effect of Bevin's motion is it gives him more time to appeal the original decision. Now that Shepherd has declined to change the order, it gives Bevin another 30 days to ask the state Court of Appeals to review the decision.
