Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear says Calloway and Muhlenberg Counties are among six from a random drawing to undergo independent inquiries for irregularities during the General Election. The Kentucky Election Integrity Task Force met Tuesday to review the administration of the November 8th election.
He said the routine audit is required by Kentucky law and doesn’t imply that irregularities are suspected. The audit involves the AG interviewing local officials and election officers and a review of sheriff precinct reports, election reports, voter assistance forms and absentee ballot applications. Investigators may also randomly call absentee voters.
Task force members include U.S. Attorney’s offices, the FBI, the Kentucky A-G office and Kentucky State Police. Officials say the high-profile election was largely free of problems.
The other counties are Carter, Jackson, Leslie and Wayne.
As of November 22, Beshear’s office reports 277 election complaints by phone, email, fax or letters from 66 counties. The majority of them were in Jefferson County.
All allegations have been investigated and complaints have been closed. Approximately 1.95 million Kentuckians, or 59% of registered voters, cast ballots in the general election.
