Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander said today in a news briefing that Kentucky childcare centers will receive another wave of funding from the state.

State officials are providing an additional $20 million from CARES funding to childcare centers across Kentucky. Friedlander said registered and licensed centers will receive $130 per child.

Governor Andy Beshear confirmed 2,398 overall cases of coronavirus today. He said 1,472 are “historical cases” from the last month and a half. He said these cases are the result of a backlog at Fayette County Health Department. Beshear said state officials have always reported statewide cases when they received them. He said even if the cases didn’t occur today, they are still “real cases.”

Beshear said today’s new cases include 926 positives, which he said is a “significant number in and of itself.” He confirmed a 4.21% positivity rate today. He said 674 Kentuckians are currently hospitalized with 161 in the ICU and 79 on a ventilator.

State Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack urged people to wear a mask, socially distance and stay home and get tested if they have symptoms. He said the virus is like a casino and “the house always wins.”
