The Kentucky Public Service Commission is holding a public meeting in Madisonville next month to discuss proposed electric rate increases.
Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas and Electric companies requested increases they say are needed to pay for a system-wide installation of new technology to improve safety and reliability. The commission will take public feedback into consideration as they consider the proposed rates.
KU estimates that the base portion of a customer's monthly residential bill would have an average increase of six-point-two percent. LG&E estimates their bill would have an average increase of ten-point-three percent.
Meetings will also be held in Louisville and Lexington.
