A Kentucky high school senior has been chosen to play tuba with the Great American Marching Band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports Trent Woolard had to go through a strenuous audition process that began in March.

The 18 year old lives in Owensboro and is a student at Daviess County High School. He plans to attend the University of Kentucky next fall.

The marching band features 185 musicians and 40 flag bearers. It is made up of students from across the U.S.

According to the parade website, 3.5 million people are expected to attend with more than 50 million watching on television.

Woolard says it is an honor to be chosen for a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”
