A woman from Gilbertsville died Tuesday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision in Livingston County. Kentucky State Police said in a release they were notified at 3:55 p.m. by Marshall County dispatch of the collision near mile marker 29 on Interstate 24.

A preliminary investigation found 42-year-old Amy Chavez was traveling westbound in the right lane on I-24. She did not see traffic slowing on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge and moved to the left lane in an attempt to pass a semi-tractor trailer. Per witnesses, that semi changed lanes and cut her off. She then moved back to the right lane, lost control of the vehicle and side-swiped a semi-tractor trailer in the left lane. She then collided with the rear end of a semi-trailer in the right lane.

All three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Chavez was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Livingston County Coroner.

Kentucky State Police Collision Reconstructionist Detective Eric Fields is continuing the investigation.
