Kentucky State Police are investigating an apparent accidental shooting Wednesday afternoon in Hickory, Graves County, involving an off-duty police officer and a 17 year old girl.

According to a news release, Graves County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant David Warner returned home after his shift. As he was unloading his firearm an accidental discharge struck his 17-year-old step-daughter. The injuries were non-life threatening.

The victim was transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah and is in stable condition.

Sheriff Dewayne Redmon requested the KSP handle the investigation due to it involving a member of his department.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011.
