Marshall County Republican Chris Freeland won the State Representative seat for district 6 last night.

Freeland defeated retired teacher Linda Story Edwards by more than 5000 votes.

He says one of his priorities is economic development in the area.

"I want to go out, and meet with these companies and try to lure them here," said Freeland. "See if there's a spot that they can have in our counties that will be good for their businesses. A good fit."

Freeland has said he has a goal of collaborating with state leaders to attract more business to the region. District Six is Marshall and Lyon counties and was previously held by Democrat Will Coursey.

Chris Freeland is a businessman who owns Freeland Broadcasting, which operates WCBL, WCCK and Marshall County Daily. He previously served four terms as a Benton city councilman.

Shelby Frye is a senior at Murray State University, double majoring in theatre and journalism. She has lived in Murray for four years, but grew up in Paris, Tennessee. When she isn’t working at WKMS, Shelby performs in and works on crew for Murray State Theatre productions, plays Dungeons & Dragons, and keeps her plate full with her dual majors.
