The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet released on Tuesday a list of major highway projects across the state under consideration for the 2020 Highway Plan.

The projects were formulated using the state’s ‘SHIFT’ ranking model, which KYTC says uses objective data on safety, congestion, asset management, economic growth and benefit-cost ratios. From the list, four potential projects in west Kentucky total more than $200 million combined.

A project in Christian County involves widening I-24 from US 41A to the Kentucky/Tennessee state line to improve safety and reduce congestion, totaling nearly $120 million. Another would improve the Pennyrile Parkway from I-24 to I-69 in Hopkins County to meet interstate standards, totaling nearly $38 million.

Purchase Parkway improvement projects in Graves and Fulton counties total more than $48 million. In Graves County, the project would reconstruct the Purchase Parkway from southwest of the US-51 interchange to Cardinal Road near Mayfield including the KY-339 interchange in Wingo. Work in Fulton County would go towards improving the Purchase Parkway at the Kentucky/Tennessee line to southwest of the US-51 interchange.

Among other projects, a parkway conversion programming study is being considered in Muhlenberg County, which would cost $500,000.

KYTC also released a list of 74 committed projects from the 2018 Recommended Highway Plan that include Calloway, Christian, Hopkins, McCracken and Muhlenberg counties.

Among the committed projects, Calloway County has remaining costs of more than $45 million for projects that will expand US 641 from the Tennessee state line to Murray and from the Tennessee state line to the Clarks River Bridge.

KY 911 in Christian County has a remaining cost of $7.8 million for the widening of US-41A to Oak Grove.

In Hopkins County, remaining costs of nearly $12 million are for work to improve US-41A from Industrial Drive to Yorkwood Place.

Two projects costing more than $28 million in McCracken County would widen US-62 from KY-998 to Paducah Information Age Park and improve KY-1286.

A Muhlenberg County project would widen US-62 from Walmart to US-431.
