The new Lake Barkley bridge could be ready for traffic by mid-2018 if everything goes as planned.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineer Mike Oliver presented an update to the Calloway County Fiscal Court Tuesday. Oliver said crews are finishing the foundation and will begin laying concrete deck at the end of May. He said having a mild winter going into 2018 would determine how quickly crews finish laying the concrete deck for the bridge.
The new bridge replaces the Henry Lawrence Memorial Bridge at Canton, built in 1932. The design includes four 11 foot-wide lanes, 4-foot shoulders and a multi-use trail.
The total project cost is $128.3 million. The $20 million arch was installed in February.
