The Marshall County Fiscal Court today approved Kentucky Lake Economic Development to proceed with a study to assess the county's best locations for a publicly owned, multi-tenant industrial park. The court hesitated on the decision at last month's meeting.
The study will analyze sites based on transportation infrastructure and capacity of water, sewer and electric services.
“It’s really gonna be a snapshot, a big picture of our county. Identify sites that would make a suitable industrial park for multi-tenant, medium scale manufacturing and assembly, things of that nature,” KLED Director Josh Tubbs explained. “It’s really gonna give us the best of the best and then we’ll go from there.”
Tubbs said the new industrial park would target a different part of the industrial economy than the county’s heavy industry river corridor and Calvert City's 16-plant chemical complex.
“A diverse economy is extremely important… This site would, we hope, be more suitable for smaller manufacturing operations,” Tubbs said.
KLED is looking at a $67,000 contract with Bacon Farmer Workman Engineering and Testing, Inc. for the study.
