A Marshall County woman is facing a felony charge of identity theft after allegedly creating a fake social media account and phone number to impersonate someone.
The Murray Police Department in a press release said an investigation began in October after an alleged victim approached the department. Police said the alleged victim claims she was the target of fake messages on social media and through text over two years. Police issued a search warrant to find the IP addresses from where the fake social media messages were sent from.
Police said 46-year-old Tonya Clevidence of Benton allegedly used a spoof text number and a fake social media account to send messages impersonating the alleged victim. Clevidence is being charged with a class D felony of identity theft and a misdemeanor for harassing communications.
