Mayfield-Graves County EM Suspends Volunteer First Responder Medical Calls

Mayfield-Graves County Emergency Management is suspending all emergency management volunteers from responding to medical calls.

EM Director Tracy Warner said the suspension is a precaution against COVID-19. Kentucky currently has six reported cases of Coronavirus. So far none have been reported in Graves County. Warner said the decision prevents volunteers from potentially contracting the virus. She said these volunteers also respond to other emergencies, such as fires and car crashes.

“If the state makes it mandatory that we have to put people in quarantine, we still need our firefighters,” Warner said. “So we don’t want to lose those if somebody in a home was sick.”

Warner said Mayfield-Graves County has 13 volunteer fire departments with multiple EMTs across the county. She said the duration of the suspension will probably be determined on a weekly basis as EM works with the local health department and state officials. The Mayfield-Graves County Ambulance Service will still respond to medical calls.
