Mayfield High School Renames Gymnasium Floor In Honor Of Joe T. Ford Jr.

Mayfield High School

Mayfield High School is renaming their gymnasium floor after a local basketball legend.

According to the school, Joe T. Ford Jr. was Mayfield basketball’s all-time leading scorer and a Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall Of Fame inductee in 2002.

He was a four year starter at Vanderbilt University in the 1970s, playing with the famed ‘F-Troop’ team. Ford later served as a mentor to student-athletes in the region. He died in 2017.

A dedication ceremony is Friday night between the girls and boys varsity basketball games.

Expected to be in attendance for Friday night’s ceremony are Ford’s wife, Kim, their two sons, his mother, and his sister. Also planning to attend are Ford’s two high school basketball coaches, Don Sparks and Bob Sparks; high school teammate, Greg Waldrop; and F-Troop teammate at Vanderbilt University, Butch Fehr.

Tip-off of the girls game is set for 6 P.M.
