The McCracken County Fiscal Court on Monday approved dissolving a joint tourism commission with the City of Paducah and to form a new county commission.

The dissolution is effective August 31. The new CVB would begin on September 1.

The county is looking to collect new hotel tax revenue through the new CVB to invest in sports tourism.

County commissioners want to impose a 3% transient room tax expected to generate $1.2 million a year to go toward a “tournament worthy” sports facility that may include soccer, baseball and softball.

The current CVB is expected to become a city bureau.

City of Paducah Public Information Officer Pam Spencer said the city is working to get a four-way agreement in place between the existing CVB, a new CVB and the city and county before any additional action.

This story has been updated to include follow-up about what's next on the part of the City of Paducah.
