MSU President Davies Previews Friday's Investiture Speech

Murray State Communications

Dr. Bob Davies will officially become Murray State University’s 13th president at an investiture ceremony on campus Friday. There, he’ll give a speech titled “Endeavor, Hope and Achievement,” named after the three stars in the university’s logo.

Davies spoke with WKMS’ Chad Lampe about his time on campus thus far as well as his plans for today’s event.

He says while he’s honored to be a part of the ceremony, it’s really about the university and its goals as well as the community at large.

“It provides me, as the new President, to come in to talk about the future and where we’re going to go - Building on the strategic planning process and to propel our university forward,” Davies said.

The ceremony will feature university representatives along with government officials, including Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear. Davies’ father, Dr. Dick Davies, will also be in attendance.

“I’m a university brat. My father worked his way up through the professorial ranks and department chair to dean to provost and served in a short time in the presidency at the University of Northern Colorado,” Davies said. “Having this come full circle is very, very special. He’s a mentor, he’s a friend and someone that has influenced my life greatly.”

The investiture ceremony begins Friday afternoon at 2, and will be held in MSU’s Lovett Auditorium.

Chad Lampe, a Poplar Bluff, Missouri native, was raised on radio. He credits his father, a broadcast engineer, for his technical knowledge, and his mother for the gift of gab. At ten years old he broke all bonds of the FCC and built his own one watt pirate radio station. His childhood afternoons were spent playing music and interviewing classmates for all his friends to hear. At fourteen he began working for the local radio stations, until he graduated high school. He earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology at Murray State, and a Masters Degree in Mass Communication. In November, 2011, Chad was named Station Manager in 2016.
