Murray businessman Charles “Chuck” Jones is scheduled to make a federal court appearance in Tennessee Tuesday on wire fraud charges.
Jones allegedly participated in a scheme to defraud a federal program which provides schools with internet and telecommunications funding. He was issued a federal indictment last week.
According to the indictment, Jones gave Director of Technology for Crockett County Schools Ashley Jordan money and other things of value in return for his assistance in directing business towards his tech companies.
Louisville Attorney Kent Wicker is representing Jones and said every school Jones worked for got all the equipment and services they purchased. Jones will plead not guilty and Wicker expects him to be acquitted.
The office U.S. District Attorney for West Tennessee Michael Dunavant is prosecuting the case.
An update has been made to include the exact language from the indictment surrounding the scheme Jones' is accused of taking part in. Jones was not indicted on any charges related to bribery. WKMS also reported that the U.S. District Court Clerk's Office said a detention hearing would be scheduled for Jones during his arriagnment hearing. A spokesperson for Jones said no such detention hearing would be scheduled.
