Murray State Men’s Basketball Win Outright OVC Title, Place as No. 1 Seed

Dave Winder, Murray State Athletics, goracers.com

The Murray State University Men’s Basketball team beat Austin Peay State University 73-to-64 Saturday in Clarksville after overcoming a 15-point halftime deficit and a three-hour delay.

Storm damage to the room of the arena delayed the game with just over five minutes left in the second half.

MSU Associate AD for Media Relations Dave Winder says the night was unlike anything he had ever experienced.

“Something hit the Dunn Center in Clarksville at Austin Peay, halting the game for three hours and then resuming it and claiming an outright championship. It was just one of those nights that you're going to be years from now and you’re going to say ‘I was there when that happened,’” Winder said.

MSU's Jonathan Stark became the all-time two-year scorer in Racer history with his 31-point performance. Stark now has 1,353.

The win is Murray State's 24th victory this season and 25th Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship.

The Racers are now the number one seed and will play in the first semifinal game in Evansville Friday (March 2) at 7 p.m.
