More than a hundred dogs are in Henry County wrapping up an annual National Narcotic Detector Dog Training program which includes a competition tomorrow.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Department is hosting the week-long event that started Monday.

Sheriff Monte Belew says the dogs and their handlers have been undergoing a variety of exercises.

“From tractor trailers to ruins, simulated search warrants to house boats, pontoon boats, vehicles, high-low hides, and small amounts of drugs to large amounts of drugs," said Belew. "Hopefully next week they’ll be hitting the streets in their home county and be a little bit more well-equipped and little bit more trained.”

Belew says Henry County has six K-9 units between his department and the Paris Police.

The week ends with a competition tomorrow morning for the dogs to compete on a timed course to find narcotics.  The public is invited to spectate. That takes place around 7:30 AM until noon at the Don Ridgeway Center at Paris Landing State Resort Park in Henry County, TN.
